3 Manuals, 40 Ranks
This instrument is a "concept" organ, representing what we believe should be included in a 21st century church instrument of moderate size that has to work every week. We think that most all three-manual organs should have two expressive divisions, and when possible, two 8' Principal ensembles of different character, two sets of strings, two or more Trumpet stops, and as many color reeds as will logically fit into the design. To the latter end, this organ includes a Basson of Cavaille-Coll style, and a large scaled Krummhorn which, though bordering on a Clarinet, is still able to fill its role as the Choir ensemble reed.
Being involved from the design stage, we were able to specify the organ space and work with the church's independent acoustician. The result is an outstanding room for speech, and singing, and regular musical events draw large crowds from the community.
Speaking with a broad, full character, the organ easily fills the 1500 seat room without digital augmentation in the manuals. The pipe facade reflects the layout of the organ, with the Great centrally located in a shallow projecting enclosure. The large and small pipes of the Pedal flank the Great, and immediately behind these can be seen the expression boxes of the Choir, left, and Swell, right.
This organ contains an example of our Major or Grand Trumpet, a stop conceived as an extension of a large-scaled Pedal Trombone, moving into harmonic pipes on high pressure with Tuba-style shallots in the middle register. The rank is enclosed as a part of the Choir, to give it more flexibility.
